How do I get the sand out of the inside of my tunnel build..use the terraforming tools?

You can't dig under the land surface, and avatars can't go under the land surface.  If you want to dig a tunnel, you have to create a trench and cover it over with prims that are textured to look like the land.  If you have bought some kind of kit, that's almost certainly what it is doing too.  Read the instructions that came with it, or contact the creator/vendor if you still have questions.
