It's because structures are under building components, and that's what a skybox is (same as most any other, there are also residential structures, commercial, etc.. listed) Building components is just a parent, or base, category, it applies to lots of stuff.

Yeah that's what I thought as well the first time I saw structures under building components. They should have their own parent category, and then child ones(ie, types of structure). But they don't, they have building components, then the child, then a child of that child...blah. It's a mess.

I'd love to know who decided to make the categories what they are on MP. Because they're messed up beyond belief, and have been for ages now. By the time you find the correct category sometimes, you don't even want to bother. When I get to a point where I use inworld search, rather than MP, there's a problem, lol. I loathe inworld search :P

I also think home and garden is the most logic category for it.

But it I guess depends from what angle you look at it. When you are building a house, a sculpted roof, or a scripted door are your building components. But when you build a sim, a house or even a row of houses are your building components.

I think if they allowed us to use multiple categories for the same objects, it would help. It's quite clear they aren't going to fix the categories anytime soon(in fact all they've manage to do is screw them up more, lol). So something like this could be a decent(ok, semi decent) compromise for the time being.

I've got lots of things that I move from category to category. Things like jewelry, which could fit in either the jewelry category or, at appropriate times, seasonal categories(ie, holidays and such). Not that I mind the work too much, I've less than 150 things on MP as it is, so, not like I'm moving them all. But it's still rather restrictive, if you ask me. Sometimes I feel bad for merchants with way more stuff. Because if they want to be seen (without buying enhancements, which for most, aren't very effective, not like they should be) they've got to find the most currently appropriate category....which can easily change with the seasons.

I've all but given up hope on LL and whatever team they put in charge of MP, lol. Not that I don't love MP, because I do. But frankly, I often wonder what sort of hamsters they're hiring there at the lab, and how I can get an application. My children would do a better job of running it than they do.(is it sad my children listen better than grown adults?) I do have to chuckle at that thought too because my 8 yr old helps me put things on MP all the time..."why do they want it to go there, it doesn't fit there"-yeah that's a very common phrase heard in this house, lol.

i think the reason they do not allowe us to use more categories is the fact that there will always be people who are going to abuse this. they will use each and every single categorie to present their product.. Marketplace is already a mess, making more categories available for 1 product would make it even more a mess...

And yea, you are right, to be honnest i do not understand either why they have houses and skyboxes or even shops for that matter under buildingcomponents/structures... it would be logical to put them under home and gardens or even their own categorie.

oke, returning to my corner for now

Very true, there would be people to abuse it. But people already do-especially with keywords.

Type in the search word "worm", and take a look at what you see, lol. Tons of keyword spam, and a whole lot of products that have absolutely nothing at all to do with it. I don't even bother reporting things as much as before. They've made it abundantly clear those reports don't even get looked at, at least not anymore. That search word happens to be one I was looking for not too long ago for a project. I gave up and decided I'll make my own instead of buying the sculpt maps from someone else and just making my own textures. Actually I've decided to do that with a lot of things. Mostly because when I go looking, I get a crap ton of unrelated stuff, no matter where I look.

Does anyone know why *Skyboxes* get listed on Market Place under *Building Componants?* Just curious because it's a lot of them, not just someone who liisted wrong.

Hope everyone is having a good start to their weekend.

As far as I know, prefab buildings have always been listed under building components. So I would guess you can thank Apotheus SIlverman for that who opened SL exchange in 2004. When LL purchased the site in 2009 they left that category structure in place. The first time I ever listed a prefab must have been Dec 2004 and I remember being baffled at the time by the building component category. Still am to this day.
