Click-right on each to link them:

To link the prims, hold down the Shift key and select one prim.
While still holding down the Shift key, click on the second prim.
Press Ctrl-L. You now have one object.

You can give the linked set it's own name, copy, move it, or take it into inventory.

FYI: Ctrl-⇧ Shift-L is the command to unlink a linked object.

You can now move and strech the linked object (assuming the prims are modify).

Click on the first prim (or linked set). Holding down the shift key, click on the other prims (or linked sets) one by one until all that you wish to change are highlighted. Then holding down the Ctrl + Shift keys you can stretch, tint  etc. all at once without linking them. Click on another prim or close the build menu to release your collective choice.

This works fine if you don't need to be too precise with your resizing. You do not need to link the prims in order to change them all at once.
