Question

Please help, I am having problems with everything loading in SL, from skins and clothes on people, to landscapes, pictures, shops etc...... pretty much everything! It is very slow and laggy as well.

I am using a Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family graphics card, is this my problem? Is it not compatable with SL?

CPU: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU       T4400  @ 2.20GHz (2194.49 MHz)

Memory: 3033 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601)

Graphics Card Vendor: Intel Graphics Card: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family

Windows Graphics Driver Version: 8.15.0010.1994 OpenGL Version: 2.1.0 - Build 8.15.10.1994

libcurl Version: libcurl/7.21.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8q zlib/1.2.5 c-ares/1.7.1 J2C Decoder Version: KDU v6.4.1 Audio Driver Version: FMOD version 3.750000 Qt Webkit Version: 4.7.1 (version number hard-coded) Voice Server Version: Vivox 3.2.0002.10426

Built with MSVC version 1600 Packets Lost: 65/11,776 (0.6%)

Any help would be very grateful

Thanks :matte-motes-smile:

Using a mobile graphics chip set certainly doesn't help.  Many SL residents have a hard time with laptops that don't have a separate graphics card in them, and there are some problems specifically with the switchable graphics mode in some chipsets.

You also seem to have a moderate packet loss, which could be due to a weak wireless connection.  Wireless is itself often a problem for SL residents, so you might try using a direct cable connection instead.

I don't see which viewer you are using but if it is the newest Linden Lab for mesh viewer, it takes many resources to run well. A hefty graphics card and a fast connection certainly help. You might (for now anyway) try going to an older viewer. Firestorm 2 (pre mesh) is still available to download and works better on older machines. Third party viewer 1s come in both mesh and non-mesh versions now. And there is the old 1.23.5 Linden viewer which still works on old (my six year old notebook for example) machines but which doesn't do much :D.

So lots of choices. Be aware though that LL has plans to stop supporting viewer 1s server side in the not too distant future (no date given) so those viewers are only a temporary fix.

Good luck. On your next computer, go for a separate graphics card or the ability to add one :D.  That is usually the biggest killer of SL.

Thank you for replying to my post. I am using the new version of the SL viewer, sorry I am very new here and don't know all the different names for the viewers and where to look for the one I am using :o/ I wouldn't say this is an old laptop, year and a half old, I guess that is probably old in terms of computers lol. I wish I knew I couldn't add a graphics card to this laptop, I told the sales person it was for an avatar game, not SL, Utherverse and he never mentioned the graphics card grrrrr.... I won't be able to replace this laptop for years.

Ok probably a stupid newbie question but if I download another viewer I take it I don't lose my outfits etc? and do I have to uninstall the SL viewer before installing Firestorm?

Thanks for your help

No problem. All of your inventory is stored on SL's servers and then downloaded and cached locally on your computer. If you change viewers, the new viewer will simply download and cache and new copy. Check to be sure that it saves it in a different location from your original; viewer (or simply uninstall your original viewer first) so that you don;t end up with the cached copies disagreeing with each other. Phoenix and Firestorm automatically find a new location, but versions of the standard LL viewer all share the same folder in your hard drive, so they can get confused.
