Persistant (in incessant) griefing could get you banned....and eventually would though it might take some time and a number of abuse reports against you (due to what some people concider griefing may not quite make it to that catagory).  If your griefing incident was, in fact, a griefing incident and Linden Labs server logs back it up, you could find yourself banned almost immediately.  There are quite a few bannable ToS violations.........it's laid out quite clearly in the ToS that you agreed to when you logged into SL for the first time (everyone has to agree with the ToS before being allowed in SL..........it's a given that you have read and understand the rules so if you haven't read it yet, now's a good time:

http://secondlife.com/corporate/tos.php

Some the things that have been known to get you banned very quickly are:

Copybotting

Sexual harassment

Child pornography

Sexual age play (even if both avatars are over the age of 18 years old)

Hate speech of any kind

Threats of physical harm to the real life operator of the avatar

I hope you aren't contemplating pushing any limits of the ToS........you'll likely wind up coming back here some day whinning about being banned "for no reason".  You'll find very little sympathy......especially from me.

Here are the biggies:

1.  Sexual age play...using a child avatar for cyber sex.

2.  Fraud. Using a stolen credit card to buy $L; using exploits, phishing, or scams to steal $L from others.

3.  Identity theft; major disclosure of personal information (i.e., publishing a list of avatar account names and their owners).

4.  Underage in Real Life (under 16 for the main grid, under 13 for certain supervised areas).

5.  Copybotting, intellectual property theft (stealing other people's creations and re-selling them or distributing them free).

6.  Major and persistent griefing.

As a resident, it is your responsibility to read and be reasonably familiar with the Terms of Service, Community Standards, and other associated Linden Lab policies.

It is very easy to get deleted completely for missing a payment on land for instance and I've even heard of user accounts getting banned through posts on these very forums for expressing themselves with mildly offensive words and/or personal opinions, especially of Linden Lab or their competitors, so, you take a big chance in everything you do here when you are so easily replaceable.

Thus, and because every situation is open to interpretation, if you are looking to invest your time and money into Second Life where they store and maintain your virtual existence, be wise and do what I do now, spend money and invest your time as though you are throwing it away so that way, if something does happen and it has happened to people I know personally, you won't be so devistated as many have been.

I should mention that one of my accounts was put on administrative hold for no reason anyone could give me (and there was evidence this applied to all of my accounts) leaving me only the option to delete it altogether. I spoke to a Linden about this and they had no idea why this happened although, I felt they were being less than honest with me.

The sad part about this game is that the griefers and copybotters rule and they always return with new accounts and do what they want no matter how many times they get banned and with all of the luxuries of virtual goods. Paying users from what I've observed, get very little special treatment for their investment.
