HI HELP with MESH upload..

Recommended Posts

what 3d program do you use?

.dae is a mesh file, it doesn´t use a color map like prims if that´s what you are asking.

Please be more specific regarding your used soft and I´m sure you´ll get the help you need from this forum.

A collada file is a textfile, not a map as you apparantly are used to with sculpts. You can create one in most 3D programs by exporting it. The file format is .dae

No. you can not convert a mesh into a sculpt map.

The problem your friend is having mey be caused by many things...

_number of triangles (you can´t go beyond 60K if I´m not wrong),

_bad exporting from the 3d soft

_SL bugs (not rare at all :S )

and so on... if you could be a little bit more specific it will be easier to determinate the cause.

There is no given limit to number of triangles, there is a limit for the vertices, since that's what SL uses as a reference. the number is indeed 60k ish..65k actually.

I recall in a discussion about Google Sketchup that SL has a problem with the version of Collada, SL works with collada 1.4 and apparently newer versions make it crash.  So make sure to save it as collada 1.4.0 or somehow convert it.

One mesh tire shouldn't cost more than 11 lindens, which seems to be the minimum. If it costs as much as you say, you need to simplify your model and make some custom LODs probably.

If you want some help, you really need to post some information the rest of the forumusers can work with.

As said before...it would really help to post your 3D program of choice and the exporter you use, including version numbers. (Although it seems you got it working)

Could you post a screenshot of your upload window? or at least the numbers it gives you on triangle and vertice count, landimpact, server weight, download weight and physics weight?

Could you post a picture of the model you work with, preferrably with all the edges visible?

Could you tell us if you made any custom shapes for the different LODs and Physics?

Hi everybody

I'm the Marina's friend. I use cinema 4d to make the model. I tryed to upload it in SL as a mesh but the price is very expansive. So I would try to import my model in blender and then create the sculpt from there

as Kwalkkede said, if your cost feels too high, then you probably have an unoptimized model. If it's unoptimized, then it'll have an inappropriately high Land Impact, and then you'll be sad. No one wants you to be sad. If you'd like additional feedback from other content creators, please post what the resource costs are from the upload window, as well as a shot of what the object looks like.

Additionally, while you are testing an object, and especially when you are actually new to uploading, we suggest that you use Aditi for for your uploads. See: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Mesh/Basics (the highlighted part "Save L$ by testing on the beta grid")
