Hello TheOne and welcome to SL Forums. I have read here in SL Forums that Catalyst 8 and 9 are problematic for some users especially if you are running crossfire (dual gpu). Download again the older drivers.

It's not as easy as that.  When you update divers, you need to be sure to delete all traces of the previous drivers first, and be sure that you install the correct drivers from the chipset manufacturer.  Follow these directions carefully >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Clean_Install  .
