There is no "best" viewer for taking photos in SL, but you will find many opinions about which ones photographers think are best.  I suggest spending some time in the Art, Music and Photography forum to get a feel for what other enthusiasts are talking about.  Post a few questions and get their opinions.  Read the very long, very helpful sticky post at the top of that forum to get some hints about tools and techniques for taking great photos.

You can take a photo in any veiwer --- even the old 1.23.5 which of course we DID take photos in when it was the standard :D.  What is actually more important (and I take a lot (LOT) of photos for both blogging and art purposes) is your graphics card. The better photos use Windlight settings on Ultra. If you are really lucky, you get to have shadows and even depth of field (both Viewer 2 and 3 based viewers will give you that but you need Firestorm 3 or perhaps the newest LL 3 viewer for shadows and DOF with ATI graphics cards).

From there it is simply practice. Use the little camera icon to take the photo. Check "hi resoultion snapshot" in your viewer for sharper photos -- especially if you need largish ones.

Have fun!  That's an order *wink*.
