It has some uses, it creates awareness without getting over involved in the exact details, "for more info, visit inworld", that might be the general idea.

I would agree that some Adult topics and discussions require a degree of what is considered Adult Language in order to give the subject it's due justice.

I do not agree that every sentence needs to begin and end with F-bombs for a statement to be worth posting. I suspect that some Residents want to be able to type anything they want, anytime they want. Anyone with a problem with that, can go .... themselves.  I think that this is the Attitude and style of Adult Language desired by some Residents.

To the very few Residents who sincerely wish to inform and educate other Residents about SL activities classified as Adult: I applaude your efforts, and I regret that the current Policy does not provide greater freedoms to the AC. Should I ever find a need to use that Category, I would like for those services to available to me.

There are many things I do not agree with in SL, but these are the systems We have. It's free advertising, I would use it to create benefit.

My short repsonse to the issue has been:

This forum is ABOUT the Adult side of SL

It's not itself, WITHIN the Adult side of SL

(hope that makes sense)

That actualy does make sense. :matte-motes-smile:

Unfortunately the dubious maturity of many Second Life residents - including those old enough to participate in the "adult" side of SL - are not ones I would trust to be mature enough to "handle" a forum that allowed adult language. I think we'd probably see the forums degenerate into nothing but cursing and unnecessarily vulgar language.

That being said, it would be nice if we could talk about adult issues without drowing in euphamisms.

For now, the adult forums are still part of the main forums, so even if you tried to use "adult" language, you'd probably have it *bleeped* out - and any "curse words" that weren't bleeped would likely be reported.

The forum it self is PG even though it is to discuss Adult Content and related issues, this can be an awkward fine line to walk at times, however I see no reason why anyone would need to be vulgar or explicit to discuss serious adult topics.

Let's hope the moderators get the distinction. And let's be Adult about Adult and not make it harder for them with uneeded vulgar posts.

Not everyone knows how to use swearing to enhance their expression.  Whether it's cursing excessively, ineffectively, or not at all, it's a handicap.
Specific to the topic, however, I find less reason to curse in this forum than in others.

There is no such thing.

Rastas call it slackness for a reason - not only the moral failing, but it a sign of a weak mind or of letting baser emotions take control to need to resort to such expressions. Something always best to avoided, and aware when one falls into it that one has in essense lost control on one's argument.

Nope.

It's fine that spinster aunts, retired schoolmarms, and apparently Rastas (who knew?) are limited by that way of thinking, confusing the choice of swearing with the need to swear.

For those whose business is language, however, that's just fuel for the machine: Conspicuously not swearing is a characteristic of those groups, to be used when imitating them -- until, perhaps for comic effect, "grandma" lets drop the F-bomb.

Anything in the language is available, if one's job is language.  Yes, that includes the N-word, ethnic and gender epithets. They're among the most powerful words, when used skillfully.  Knowing how to do that is part of knowing how to express oneself using all the tools available.

I think you are confusing Adult and Adult topics with Vulgarity.  Just because we are adults and we dabble in adult oriented matters, does not mean we are vulgar beings with a weak command of the English language.  If one is unable to have an adult conversation without being vulgar and cussing, then maybe you are not as adult as you may think.

And honestly... try to write like an adult, use your words man... "wanna", "unno", "inna" .... these do not fit into the vocabulary of any self respecting adult.

I was a-trembling, because I’d got to decide, forever, betwixt two things, and I knowed it. I studied a minute, sort of holding my breath, and then says to myself: “All right then, I’ll go to hell”—and tore it up. It was awful thoughts and awful words, but they was said. And I let them stay said; and never thought no more about reforming.
