Physics Shape Type disappeared

Jenni's excellent thread has been moved to the mesh sub-forum, which is silly because it's not mesh-specific. However, something has changed.

Yesterday, I changed the "Physics Shape Type" of some of my non-mesh stuff to "Convex hull", which had the effect of reducing the LI (land impact) so they count for fewer prims on the land. But today, the Physics Shape Type drop-down is missing from the Features tab in the edit box. Also missing is the number of prims remaining. I'm in V3 which includes the LI system.

There are three possibilities that spring to mind:-

1. Things are not working out so LL has removed the Physics Shape Type and prims remaining bits from the edit box until they sort it out.

2. They've changed it so that only those who are registered for mesh get to use it - which would be a really stupid thing to do.

3. Something else that I can't imagine.

Would someone who uses a suitable viewer be kind enough to check if the Physics Shape Type drop-down box still shows in their edit box (Features tab)? Preferably someone who isn't registered for mesh.

Thank you, Qie. It's really weird. I'm in an identical Bluesteel sim and there's no Physics Shape Type for me, or a remaining prims number. All the text associated with those is missing. excep the "More info" link, which does work. There is a non-operational drop-down where the Type drop-down should be, but no text associated with it. I wonder if Firestorm, or the mesh version of Phoenix will get it back.

The changes to objects that I made yesterday are still there, but I can't make any more changes one way or the other. I wanted to try and discover why a 2-prim dining chair wouldn't reduce to 1LI when an identical chair did. Neither have anything in them.

I've just got the mesh-enabled Phoenix viewer and I now have the Physics Shape Type back. It doesn't include the remaining capacity number but that's just an extra anyway.

V3 doesn't show  me the Type any more on either computer. The main computer's V3 was downloaded either yesterday or the day before because something went wrong with it. Now it crashes all the time. The laptop's V3 doesn't crash but it also no longer gives me the Type choices.

Hello again. Just to add, I am using V3 and still have the Physics Type dropdown. You said you crashed and don't have it but also that the laptop that didn't crash doesn't have it. I wonder if it has anything at all to do with the region you are in? Just a wild guess, maybe try a sandbox and see if there is a difference maybe?

Now that's really odd. I did as you suggested Charolotte - used V3 to try in a different sim version - and the Physics Shape Type, etc. is back! Then I came back to my land, and it's back here too.

Incidentally, V3 just crashed on the laptop. I think it's set to auto-download updates, and I think the current version is *much* worse than the previous one. Not only because of the crashes (I can't stay logged in with it) but also because of unacceptable texture oddities. I sang V3's praises when I first used it, but not any more. Not for now, anyway.

I don't know if it is the version or if it is all the hardware/software updates they are doing. Most likely a combination of the two, so far, all is well on my small parcel on V3. However, in my travels I do notice odd happenings going on, sometimes my animations go awry and sometimes textures refuse to rez, it varies by region.

Not many weeks ago, when I first tried the V3, I was so impressed with it that I would have stayed with it were it not for a couple of things I regularly use in the Phoenix viewer - radar and, to a lesser extent, "Get UUID" in the edit box. I was even prepared to do without camera controls and get used to using the keyboard (because LL hasn't produced decent camera controls since the idiotic V2). But the current version of V3 is no good at all, and I don't mean because I can't stay logged in with it due to crashes. Textures are a huge problem now. They skew and get coloured, and it's simply no good any more until they fix it.

For instance, I log in by a shack on my land. The walls are stone. Some walls rez perfectly but others get strong colors or get horribly skewed. I obviously have the texture at my end because of the correctly displayed walls, but some of them don't display properly until I do something to them, and then they instantly get into line.

That's a shame. I have read that if you have more than one viewer, each should have a separate cache location to avoid clashing, but I have recently read that this is no longer necessary. Do you use separate caches and if you don't, have you ever heard of trying that? I only use one viewer so I don't know.
