As long as we are waxing nostalgic, what about the big Crash of'07.  I think it was Sept or Oct.  Maybe it was later than that.

TP's were down for several days.  Rezzing things, changing clothes, etc, was difficult.

I was stuck on an Empty SIM for two days with an Escort from France and we couldn't get anything to work.  What a frustrating experience!

I always wanted a T Shirt that read "I Survived The Crash Of '07"

It took just 64 minutes from her posting the thread to Eli posting the first sims. Five minutes later, she thanked him for them, and that's when it started. Fanstastic stuff!

I was here through the whole of '07 (I joined at the end of '06. For most of '07 I was in business, but I have no recollection at all of the big crash. Perhaps it wasn't grid-wide or, more likely, I have fewer functioning brain/memory cells than I thought.

remember the couple of days when people were getting ghosted for like 6 to 12 hours in mass amounts?

then someone figured out that if you could find an estate that worked it would log you back in..

it was people that were on mainland..

someone would post up a sim that was working to get them on and it would get flooded..then it became the big hunt for sims that worked lol

I was waiting on my store's land. You were supposed to be bringing 40 people to protest. Where were YOU?

I have no recollection of that either. But I didn't use the forum in 2007. Maybe I'd started by the end of the year.

Ooh! thanks for finidng it - will go stroll down memory lane some more. Brenda I see as inworld every now and again. I am trying to get back into being in SL- I spend most of my time in InWolrdz but am trying to be "here" more. Damien and I are still together actually- we have a place in IW. Every once in awhile we pop into the Cartel Hangout.

Still- damn Lindens for destroying such a great community as we had in RA. Glad there are peeps here though to make their own. The Undying Thread has been reborn in several places but has never taken off- it couldn't really- that was a once in a life time thing.

Hugs all and Merry Happy Everything!

OMG! Yes! And it was rife with great names after! Oh yes.. lol those were the days and all that- I wil need to remember to come visit your tower again sometime

I fondly recall the fair maiden and the knights
:D

Alas, the castle and its towers are gone, and the damsel in distress with it. She was never rescued and was heard gently sobbing as the castle crumbled around her.

I think you mean the Grid Crash of  2008. It was April 5 th. I remember it well because I was DJing a 24hour marathon for Relay for Life that night. We ran from the orignal location to a friends sim as all the mainland sims started crashing around us. There were about 3 of us left that were the last survivors on that sim until they shut down second life entirely, We kept the party going on offline as people listened in and use other ways to donate. SL was down for the longest time ever.

So many crazy things have happened in SL since I joined back in 2004

Another thing, which you left out, is the tragic, often bordering on (if not crossing those borders) incompetent customer service LL provides... even to paying members.  Fixing this alone would go a long way to restoring people's faith in LL and quelling people's dissatisfaction with SL.

I agree completely, I started my SL adventure in 2008 as paying member and at the time it was a great experience  to meet a "Linden" online and have them fix your problemsand this gave us a very strong feeling of a VASTE community online.

I agree that people come and go and there is a fair amount of new players, unfortunatelly the learning courbe in SL is quite step for those that are not computer nerds and no friendly assistance is showing up anymore for new people.

also there is a growing attitude between experienced players to ignore and at time be hostile towards new players called noobs.

Obviosly the crisis plays a part in all this, as LL tends to cut out costs, increasing incomes and experienced players to cut their playing time
