The newest viewers (Viewer 2 and for sure Viewer 3) take a HEFTY machine with lots of power. That black screen most likely is a hint that your current system can't run the newer viewers. Best to download the new Phoenix, which will work for older viewers and now even has mesh capapbilities. You will most likely have to wait until you get a new machine before you can see SL at its finest. Don't worry. There is plenty still that you can do.

Hello Gabriela and welcome to SL Forums. If you don't want to download a TPV or you are not familiar with, you can try to download again the previous version of Viewer 3 (3.2.1). You can find it here. So install the last version and install again the previous one. In this case don't forget to set your software updates no to be installed automatically (Preferences --> Setup).

I have had issues in the past where a new viewer would crash instantly but the 'old' one would start up as expected. In my case, which have not been the same as you describe, I've fixed it by simply manually emptying my cache folder before starting the viewer again. I can't find the wiki page explaining how to do this manually anymore... :( I guess we are not supposed to anymore. Search the forums and I'm sure you will find instructions on how to do it.

The easiest and safest way to locate and manually clear your cache on any system is to look on the tab in your preferences where you would normally clear your cache.  You'll see the location the cache is on your computer system (even if you've moved it from the default or, for some reason, it's not at the typical location).  Note that location, close your viewer and navigate to that location then delete every file in the final folder shown in that path.  Rebooting your computer is a step some recommend though I think it's unnecessary, it's not going to hurt anything (it might even help........who knows :) ).

You can pull up your preferences at the log in screen (under the "Me" menu) without having to log in.
