it might be your AO.  Turn off the AO you are wearing and then try to use the pose balls

Hello blackstare and welcome to SL Forums. When you sit on a "pink ball" usually you get a pop up window which asks if you want to animate your avatar. You must to accept it clicking "Yes". If not, you just sit on the balls and your avatar does no animate. Don't forget also to turn off your AO (if you wear) as already mentioned.

That's what a pose ball is supposed to do.  You sit on it, and while you are seated you cannot move anywhere else.  It is "posing" you in that particular animation at that particular spot.  It does not need to ask your permission to do that.  Permission is granted automatically when you choose to sit and is released again when you stand up.
