Like most Residents, I have plenty of my own ideas about how to fix Second Life.

If you could make 1 change in SL to improve SL; what  would you change?

I welcome replies from other Residents who wish to share a thought, or idea, or concept, or change to improve SL.

(if you have more than one idea, I wrote this for you. It's ok to post them) :smileyhappy:

Well..., my idea, ok then. Where is that idea? It's around here somewhere. The inner workings of Second Life are very complex, fyi.

I would change the currency and create 2 types of L$. One could be withdrawn, the other could not. Both would be valid for Inworld use. This would allow for the option to offer a Stipend to All Residents. The stipend could be very small for basic membership. Starting with nothing is very difficult for any person.:matte-motes-smile:

What would you change?

A good start would be to fix all the little aggravating glitches and bugs that have been around for years.  For example, I'd kiss a Linden the day I can close an inventory folder and it stay closed until I open it again or do anything in my inventory without every *bleeping* folder opening!  Yeah its small, but all those little pains add up to a big one in you know where.

And full 64 bit support would solve that hands in the hip problem?

This is kind of sad, but apparently I have been doing this wrong for years now.  I have always just clicked the reply button in the last entry to the thread to respond to the OP.  DUH, makes my reply look a little strange I guess.

Better customer service. That's what I would like to see. Consistency with that customer service too. Example: it seems to depend very much what time of the day it is, who is on duty dealing with enquiries and ARs, as to what the resulting action/advice is.

Not to be fobbed off with "submit a JIRA" responses when asking for help. I don't mind submitting JIRAs, but the average SL-er I am sure would prefer to be able to log in and get on with living their Second Life without having to navigate through all the different websites, just to find their JIRA, more often than not, gets closed, without action, or mostly ignored.

I would also like to see the return of the Incident Report/Police Blotter so that we can at least see that some action has been taken against ARs submitted.

Feedback generally - on these forums especially - from LL. Rodvik L is setting a good example on his mysecondlife feed; other LL folks need to follow.

And most definitely those "welcome" areas need cleaning up.  Creating a new alt recently, if that had been my first encounter of SL, I would have never logged in again.  As I left the orientation process and arrived at Violet sim, I was used as target practice for verbal abuse.

I feel I balance the negative with something positive, so I will say I am extremely pleased to see the Greeter Island sims, plus there are also some new-looking sims nearby (called SL DiscoveryIsland Public  ) which contain more information, freebies, video tutorials, all really useful tools for new people, as they can learn things at their own pace without interference (and therefore definitely more welcoming than those "welcome" areas mentioned in the previous paragraph) - thing is, no one seems to know they're there (yet?).

*****

And a note to P.C., should she follow me in here too - yes, he did have to ask L.O.L.

All that ultra stuff requires a strong system.........notably graphics. You can't make a stock, off the showroom floor, Toyota Prius perform like a stock, off the showroom floor, Dodge Viper.

Not that the performance difference is quite the same.........but the idea is.  If your system can't do it then your system can't do it.  You have to have the ability or you'll fail every time.

There are soo many things that need to be changed, each of which will improve SL a little, such as many more tier levels so that people pay for the land they actually have (that's one of my favourites :) ). But a big one, for me, is for LL to actually do things *for* users/customers - put the customer first.

Another, very important, one is for LL to be open with users/customers - tell us what's happening, tell us what the plans are, etc. - and not secretive, as they are - although that comes under the "put the customer first" one.

A big problem with the LL/SL setup is that it's "them and us", and it's LL who makes it that way. Users in general *want* it to be "us and us", but it will never be that as long as LL persists in doing thing *to* users instead of *for* users.

Have everyone be age verified no matter what their age. Or create a separate "game" called Teen Life for an example of a name.

I think the internet itself needs to change before SL could be "better".  Such as having websites rated Adult, Pg or G on the actual website and then for the internet to have Adult, Pg and G rated browsers, with Adult browsers needing age verification also.  Also, where an internet business starts, the internet laws should be regulated according to that jursidication.  Such as SL, California, thus residents should be bound to California internet law.  Tougher laws needed for identify theft also for the underaged or any age or type of identity misuse.  Again, the internet itself would have to be better imo for SL to be better.

To: Wildcat,
Supersims is a great idea. When I rented a Homestead, I quickly learned that mountians, valleys, rivers and streams will not all fit in one Region. (I had high hopes)

To: ROB34466llla,
I'm not a computer mechanic, I don't know anything about 64-bit. Fortunately, I created this thread in hopes that LL would review and consider implementing ideas presented by Residents.

To: Teagan,
I knew who you were replying to.:smileywink:  I use an AO and as a male avatar, that hands on the hips was always a little to effeminate for me. For the ladies, I think the stance is very cute. The hands dissappearing into the hips is not so cute.

To: Elosie,
Ugly: the state of not being good looking. Uglily: ugly in motion. Makes sense to me. Looking good is feeling good, I totally support better avatars.

To: Peggy,
Combined with a stipend for all, the two would compliment each other.

To: Amethyst,
I'm part of the problem, :smileysad: I don't report bugs I experience, because I haven't taken the time to learn and understand the process. Reporting a bug should be like filing an Abuse Report (AR). Date, time, location, problem.

To: Marigold,
I remember when F-11 was a very popular reply. Today, it's clear cache and did you file a Jira?
I hear you on the Feedback and I hope that LL hears us.
:smileysad:  :smileymad: on the Welcome area issues.
To accentuate your positive, in aims of eliminating the negative :smileyhappy: , The Premium Sandboxes are sooo fine, Membership truly has it's benefits. It's good to be King of the Sand..... :smileyvery-happy: ok maybe I'm going a little overboard about it but the Lands are really nice.

To: Six,
Additional Contact List and options is an excellent idea. I've always thought it would be cool if Group's could somehow link in a Group Friends List, or even a Group of Groups.

To: Phil,
Paying for the Land hints at another idea I have to improve SL.
As Marigold has stated, Customer service needs improvement. One solution may be to hire Support staff who have previous SL experience as a result of Being a former or current Resident. (LL might be doing that already, idk)
I have sensed the "us vs. them",... I think a small part of the problem is that greater distinction needs to be made between "who" is in SL to enjoy SL, and "who" is doing all the work to provide those services when LL interacts with Residents. There are two Parties in SL, those who are partying and those who are (mostly) sober, w/pants on.

.....................................................................................................................................................................................................................

I have limited knowledge about the first land program. I want to try to keep this particular topic short for several reasons.

I suspect the Resident I wanted to buy land from wouldn't sell at any (reasonable) price because they couldn't without losing some benefit. First lander's should be allowed to move without loss of benefit. The grid is well populated, they have honored the spirit of the agreement.

I only sense this, I cannot confirm it.  LL seems interested in what Residents sense, so, I'm happy to offer more or less sense. Time will tell which one this is.

Thank you to all for the replies so far. Very informative, ty.

I must have kissed the right Linden years ago........that doesn't happen to me (never has either).

That file opening thing happened to me on FS beta I think it was.  Well, one of the viewers I currently don't use any more used to do that.

Knowl and I posted at the same time, but my one idea that would make SL better would be to have everyone age, address, phone number, etc identified no matter what their age with an appropriate ID such as social security number.  This still won't prevent a youngin from stealing Grandma's identity.  It could help, but that's only a 'could'.

ETA:  p.s.  Since that's only a 'could' to stop identity theft and especially by the underaged, instead of making everyone go premium with a charge, perhaps an alternative could be a $5.00 dollar start up fee?  Charge to start, then they can go free and make their own things, etc.

One simple thing to bat the ball into LL's court.  Every quarter or bi annually LL puts up a survey at the login screen asking what residents (their customers) want to see addressed, introduced, fixed etc.  Options would be drawn from say the top 10 voted for JIRAS, a conflated/collated series of 5-10 suggestions posted by residents in a suggestion box option from the previous quarterly or bi annual survey.

The results would be public and a response or course of intended action from LL would be attached to each point.  People may think that the JIRA option is being unnecessarily replicated, but I know many people inworld who bitch and moan about things and don't even know what the JIRA is or that it exists so it would only add to the weight of numbers asking for action.

I don't expect it to be revolutionary or solve things immediately, but LL will be clear on what we want as customers and we will be clear on when they intend to do something or why they are not going to do it.

I doubt that a discussion about the likelihood of implemention of Resident suggestions would produce any positive benefit in this thread or in any newly created thread.

A dream starts with an idea, you are free to share or not share your idea about what you would change in SL to improve SL.

If I worked for SL, which I do not, I wouldn't want a department that I was responsible for to make it on this list.

Change is possible, I have witnessed it.

I like your idea, it reminds me of a part of a thread I created titled "Honorary Rank".

To cut to the chase, through various methods of Resident election, a Panel of elected Residents would review, select and present Resident suggestions, ideas, concepts and recommendations to LL.

The Panel of Residents needs to be given some Authority. If a vote is passed to fix things that can be fixed, (move a road, fix a bridge, change land points ect.) those request should be immediately addressed by LL or the LDPW.

Who's working for who; that's my thought.

Usually, the people who are spelling out what needs to be done, are the people who are in charge. (or ready to charge, lol)
