AngelaTMarie
I really was wondering if there was anything that could be like a piggy bank that I can put my L in and save up. I'm a impluse buyer and really want to hide my L away in my house xD
Peggy Paperdoll
Banks were banned shortly after gambling was banned from SL. Only a bank with real world creditials can operate in SL (such as Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Chase, etc) and I know of no such bank presently in SL. The best way I know to "hide" your lindens would be to create an alt and give all (or most) of you lindens to the alt. That way you would have to go through the hassle of loggin in your alt and having your alt give you the lindens........that would discourage any impulse spending. Another way is to develop a tight wad attitude like I have and think and think about spending before you spend.........I wind up thinking about it so much I think myself right out of buying it. But that depend on what it is that I want...........if I want it bad enough I'll spend whatever I need to get it (to the point of even purchasing more lindens if need be.......but I haven't done that in ages). Tiffy Vella
We used to have seperate linden balances for Inworld and X-street (pre Marketplace), and many of us used to squirrel money into our Xstreet balances, just to keep it inaccessable inworld. It was odd, but it worked. The alt suggestion is a great one, unless the alt is also a shopaholic and also demands fabulous shoes. Make an ugly ugly alt with a nasty personality that you don't want to ever log in as, and will never be tempted to live a life as. Not even as a fixer-upper. (I have a horrible old vagrant drunk for this.) Give him/her/it your money. No transaction fees, and it's easy to do, just don't forget the password. To get it back, you have to log in as them. This should be a good barrier between your savings and that fabulous fatpack deal you impulsively neeeed right now. I don't think there is an object that you can put in your house, so that you leave your money at home, like excess inventory. It's not a bad idea, come to think of it. I wonder if someone clever could script a piggy bank/biscuit barrel, as it would also look really cute sitting on a sidetable. (I tried to make a swear jar once, and found there was no way to store money without it going to a person.) I just cash mine out as $US, then it's untouchable by everyone except LL until it gets sent to PayPay. Only when it hits my bank account as $AUS do I squander it on such fripperies as food and wine. Sassy Romano
a piggy bank would be easy to script. have it owned by the alt, then to deposit, you pay the piggy bank. to withdraw, touch it and get a dialog asking how much to withdraw. it could be set with daily or weekly limits too
Tiffy Vella
That would be almost the same as a tip jar?
Innula Zenovka
There's an example of this -- a piggy bank owned by your alt, which you may access without your alt being logged in -- in the LSL Library (I've not really looked at it closely, but it seems a perfectly good solution to me): The Stash (Bank)
Ziggy21 Slade
I suggest giving all of your money to me, I will take good care of it and of course return it when you need it. Honest : )
Sassy Romano
yes exactly. I did one so that my alt can steal my L$, should I have issues logging in
PeterCanessa Oh
Objects can't hold money in SL, only avatars can. If you make a piggy-bank (tip jar is the usual as mentioned) then the money will immediately be paid to whoever owns it and will show in their L$ balance. If you own the piggy-bank that means the money goes out of your L$ balance and straight back in. If you create an alt and they own the piggy-bank they will need build permission on your land to leave the bank out. Any money you put in/take out will immediately go into their L$ balance or come from it. If someone else owns the piggy-bank they will need build permission, the money will immediately go to them and any time they like they can disappear with your money. That's why banks were banned in SL. So, really, the alt idea is the only practical one.
Pac Lorefield
I have an alt I have used as my savings account here in SL and it has worked really well. Just create a brand new alt that you won't have interest in using often so you don't feel the need to dress it up. If you have to, good grief there is so much awesome free stuff out there to dress your alt and your main account! Get addicted to hunts and finding great free stuff instead of blowing you linden all the time!
lazylover Aedipo
I have an idea for you... i invest in second life stock exchange... SLCAPEX. Its not like a bank but it also gives you guaranteed returns... and I along with other thousands of people will be glad to prove it ! I had started with 10L and within 5 weeks I had around 300L$ even though I don't have any idea about investments . .(actually to be honest, I started in SLCAPEX just to get a bit of knowledge of stock market ) For more information you can see this link http://www.bohemiantourist.com/2011/11/15/capital-exchange-in-second-life-another-way-to-get-rich/ Hope you find it useful and get some more money to spend like I did
PeterCanessa Oh
Thousands of people fall for Ponzi schemes every year, they also give "guaranteed returns" right up until someone steals it all. I can't be bothered to look them up but I'm willing to bet any 'stock exchange' in SL states very clearly that they are role-playing financial markets. Hell, the real world doesn't even "guarantee" returns, in case anyone had failed to notice. Investments can go down as well as up, and they can simply disappear too in SL. In case they do you have absolutely no means of recovery within SL. You'd have to go to court and prove theft/fraud. (Which is not to say that you can't make money with these things, just don't 'bank' on it)
