If you're buying animations, I strongly recommend that you do it at a shop in world.  Almost all animation merchants have pose stands that you can use to preview anims before you decide which one you want to buy.  Whenever I go shopping, I invariably come home with a different anim than the one I thought I was looking for at first, simply because there are so many great possibilities to choose from.  Personally, I can't imagine being able to make an intelligent choice in Marketplace.

Find the animation in your inventory, double left click it, menu should pop up with 2 choices, play locally or play inworld.

Choose play locally, that will let you see it without anyone else seeing it.
