No viewer will run - LLCOMMON.DLL

Having been in SL for 10 months, today I find that no viewer will allow me into SL. There seems to be an issue with LLCOMMON.DLL, whatever that is. The details are :-

Sorry, this does not help me, it seems to be the same on any version of any viewer.

As I explained in your original post, this problem does not have a solution yet. It is a serious bug in the V2/V3 code. LL developers know about it and are working on a fix. For now, the only way to avoid the problem is to use a V1 codebase viewer like Phoenix.

 

You will not find any Lindens here, BTW. We are all SL residents like you. This is a public user-to-user forum.

So can you explain why it has suddenly started happening, when everything has been fine for the last 10 months ? And where do I find this V1 codebase viewer like Phoenix ?

Phoenix is a V1 codebase viewer. So is Imprudence. Also LL's own 1.23 viewer.

If you are having problems with more than the win_crash_logger.exe program that was the focus of your first message and the JIRA that I referred you to, perhaps the problem is in the llcommon.dll file on your computer. That's a Microsoft problem, not a SL issue. I can find suggestions on the web like http://dll-files.org/8165/what-is-dll-llcommon.html for dealing with it, but I have no idea how effective they may be, or whether they are even relevant to your problem. You might want to try exploring those yourself.

This IS an SL problem, not a Microsoft problem since the file LLCOMMON.DLL is distributed with your chosen SL viewer and is not a part of the Microsoft Windows operating system. In addition the link you provided in you last message returns a '404 Not Found' message, thank you.

As I said, LLCOMMON.DLL is distributed with the viewer and installed, and incorporates some links as part of the installation. Finding another LLCOMMON.DLL and replacing it simply does not work.
