I believe that the US's contribution to WWI was their presence. They only fought in one battle but the fact that they'd come, with what was perceived as virtually unlimited resources (men), was instrumental in causing the Kaiser to give in. Up until then, it was pretty much a stalemate, with men continuing to die and neither side making any progress. WWII was very different though.
