in the years i have search for second life and open simulator, there has been documentations and videos, some old, some not. but what i havent seen is a builders guide like the game programmer gems.  i have an interest in doing sculpty attachments, hair, mesh, and npcs (yet to come). some others have interest in other areas.  for example, look in the forum under  "Swimming AO keeps drowning!".  for avatars and npcs i would like to know how it is done.

maybe there should be a basic, intermediate, advanced, and a way advanced out of this world.  it still have the dynamic animation that sl played with a couple of years ago. i dont want to lose it, but where do i put it? the web pages are good but you have to know how to search and then hope that they still exists. maybe an electronic book -- but that is for another day.

what  do you think?

Several people have written books on how to do things in SL. But they become obsolete almost as soon as they are written, because LL keeps changing the features and the User Interface.

Even doing it on-line has limitations. You can find tons of information at these links:

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Main_Page

http://community.secondlife.com/t5/tkb/communitypage

But each time something new comes along, like Mesh, for example, a lot of the information posted there has te be revised to reflect those changes. For example this section:

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Clothing_Tutorials

Has nothing on the new Mesh clothes. It doesn't at first glance even seem to address prim attachments as clothing!

yes, that seems the problem -- new things are added and old stuff are out.  i am looking at "mind map" right now and through working some examples, there are pages that are "not found". i dont want to have something that is not current.  a lot of books are not current.

and yes, i had  seen the web on mesh clothing and didnt see anything there that i could use.

i have  tried both freemind and personalbrain (both dealing with mind map). i find that so far it will build urls, notes, graphics, etc so i could do stuff like meshes, npcs, scuplty, or whatever.  i have built a doc that includes sl, opensim, and game ai. later i will add 3D studio like blender, zbrush, and fbx converter. its a lot of work to do it and i am still learning.  but so far...

if anyone is interested i will post more and maybe find a way to get the mm (for freemind) out there.
