Hello af41. You can see here about ranks and roles in the SL Community and the general critiria which determine them. The ranrks of: a)Resident b)Member and c)Helper, have 3 gradations: a)New (for the Resident) or just Member and Helper b)Recognized and c)Honored.

I've been around a long time in RL and I have known a lot of people with titles and have had many of my own.  Mostly, they just mean that you have stayed in place long enough to know what's going on and to have made a difference of some kind to the community.  They help newcomers to any group see at a glance which people can probably tell you which end is up.  If the titles here mean much more than that, the significance is lost on me.
