Is there a way to turn off local chat temporary?

I go to this club where one of the DJ loves to talk about taking pills and generally abusing drugs.  She is also verbally abusive to people.  I like the music but don't want to have the chat bullsh*t constantly popping up when all I want to do is dance.

you can't turn off local chat but the next best thing is to mute the individuals you don't want to see chat from

Put him on your mute list. Right click his Avatar and click mute. And bam no more negative talk

There are thousands of clubs in SL.  Try another.

But do you mean voice chat?  If so then, yes, that can be turned off: Me > Preferences > Sound & Media.  Disable voice chat

If the DJ is chatting on his stream you can only mute her by turning off media.  If they are using voice chat then that's been explained........same with text chat.

 

But here's a real solution.  Find another club.  There are tons and many have DJ's............and the music genre is duplicated 100's of times over with all the clubs in SL.  I'm sure you can find a club that has the music you like without the DJ at upsets you.
