You make friends in SL the same way that you do in RL.   Say hello, join in conversations with other people, and share common interests.  You can try visiting places that sponsor activites you enjoy, like racing or live music or role play.  You're likely to find other people who like the same things.

NCI Kuula is a good place to met other newcomers

When I was new I liked to take classes (look in Events/Education).  I learned about SL skills and met new people too.

What are your RL hobbies/interests?  Type RL interests into search and see if there are SL locations and groups that share your interests. 

Use search events for social activities that are happening
