romartohio
People abandon land for many reasons. I have found that the abandon land that has NO value. An example a 32m2 lot. you can buy it and put a tree on it. Or a lot that is 4 meters wide and 300 meters long, a nice plot if you plan on putting in a sidewalk. Those are sold by the Governor. The people that buy them are new people to the environment that have opted to go premium. So the governor is "reaping" the fresh customers. It costs to learn. Most land undeveloped is either useless or very use specific on the mainland. Cure is to control carving of the lots for heaven's sake obsorb the fragments and make them into a viable plot. Another idea is to indicate the plots measurements. Homes etal need room, it is real cool to buy a litlle house that wont fit on a lot because of a meter. Again the new player is again "opportuned" aka robbed. SL land is sorta like buying in a DMZ you never know what you have until you have been clipped by the governor. Unless you use autocad or 3ds max for a livelihood, it is likely you will not be able to place your first house and maintain sanity. Again, rob the newest customer and make sure to shake a little frustration in there. Linden labs PLEASE give use an EASY BUTTON. You take enough off of us without us having to hire people to help us place a house or a chair for that matter. Another solution maybe to have a process based help system.....sorry you are still working on the first help system.

161488303349
Before you buy a parcel is always best to turn on property lines so can see exactly what you buying: World \ Show \ Property Lines. Also best to hide all objects so can see the whole parcel without anything on it, as sometimes a parcel can have another parcel inside its boundary owned by someone else: Advanced \ Rendering Types \ Volume Advanced \ Rendering Types \ Tree
Sylvia Tamalyn
Although I love Randall's answer, those small or oddly shaped plots are not without value. If I own a plot and a little cheap (abandoned land is $1/sq m) plot become available on the same sim, I'd likely buy it just so I could have the spare prims. Rabid Cheetah
Or to outbid your neighbor :womantongue: Sometimes those small spots are perfect if you just have a small thing in mind. I bought a place by a river and a road, made it into a small fishing area with some steps leading from the river to the road, and dumped the rest of the land to avoid excessive tier. Sylvia Tamalyn
If the spot is right next to your own parcel, it can make a little buffer zone between your house and your neighbor's banlines, too! (Or a nice place to set a cannon pointing at them...) :smileyvery-happy:
Rabid Cheetah
Ugh, the Great Wall is supposed to be made of STONE, not BANLINES! I think it would be cool if you were allowed to dig a hole on your land and make a tunnel under the other people's land to come out on the parcel on the other side of them. But until then: READY! AIM! FIRE!!!!!! :womanvery-happy:
Peewee Musytari
Small & unusual shaped/sized plots are vital on the mainland. When you deed land to group you often need those weird parcels for prim land to use up your group land bonus & get the extra prims on your main plot.
