i am a new user and i cant get logged on, it gets as far as awaiting regional handshake??

i cant log in? i get as far as requesting regional handshake then get a message telling me i cant log in. i am a new user and have just downloaded the site.

Waiting for region handshake

The "Waiting for Region Handshake" message occurs when the Second Life Viewer does not receive an acknowledgement from the server.  The usual cause of this error is a firewall blocking UDP packets. Reconfigure your firewall to resolve this problem.
