GRAPHICS PROBLEM =(

Question

Start by going to the Intel website and downloading the most current graphics drivers for your card.  The 945 should be able to run SL but your drivers may be dated or only partially installed.

Also, try downloading and OLDER and less intensive version of the viewer.  There are many third party viewers as well as the old official 1.23 Linden view that take less resources. Even my very old laptop can run 1.23. It's not a pretty, but it gets you there.

That graphics chipset is not designed (and, consequently, not suited) for the intense 3D graphics that SL consists of.  The current official SL viewer (Viewer 3) will put that IGP under too heavy a load for any consistant use in SL........that is if you can even get it to work at all.  Your only choice is to experiment with some of the third party viewers (TPV's) that don't have the features provided by the more capable viewers.  And, by doing that you are missing what SL is all about.

There's another problem with using graphic chipset that are not really capable of running programs like SL.  That's the very real posibility of damaging the graphics in your computer.......even destroying them to the point of rendering your computer inoperative (you'll have to take it to a repair facility to replace, at least, the graphics chipset and maybe the motherboard (and such an expense could be economically not feasible to perform.......more expensive to repair than to replace).  Your best bet is to get a discrete (dedicated) graphics card.  If your laptop does not have that capability then a get a higher end machine that can have a discrete card installed in it.  You can always struggle with what you have and maybe even get away without too many problems.........but you'll never experience what SL is about (and you'll be forever unhappy with your experience).
