Looking at the merchant's profile may give you an idea, assuming his business would be as old as his SL age, but maybe not. He can be 4 years old and have started his business 1 year or 1 month ago. I don't know of any other way to find out when it was exactly founded but asking the owner of the business directly.

The best way is to ask, if they are not sharing, there are several leads you might follow.

Check the born on date of the business owner. Look at claimed on dates for Land owned by a business. If the business advertises a public website in SL, do a "who is search" for the name of that website, look to see when it was registered. Ask other Residents Inworld if they are aware of the business and it's history. Search the internet for past comments or blog archives the business may have posted.
