how do accept and get gifts somebody else bought me

Your friend or the merchant he bought the item from will deliver it to you.  All you need to do is click to accept the gift when it arrives.  It will then appear in your inventory.  A word of warning, however ..... If your "in box" is full because you have received more than 25 IMs, group invitations, group notices, notecards, or other items while you were away from SL, or while you were in world but in BUSY mode, the gift item will be automatically refused.  It will not be returned to the person who sent it.  It will be lost forever.  So ...the best strategy is to be sure that you are in world when the gift is to be delivered.
