ETA: Actually, am I right in thinking that in America you'd generally ask for either "Coca Cola" or "Pepsi" if you wanted a coke? Interestingly, over here we generally just ask for "coke" and get whichever brand the place happens to be selling!

I think most use the words "coke" and "cola" as the same meaning, which is incorrect...People should ask for a "cola" and then they get whichever brand the place carries.

ETA: We do the same thing with tissues, calling all of them kleenex :(

Indeed. Care is particularly needed when the waiter looks like he might be a drug dealer!

Not wishing sickness on a child.  Some of the posters (cough, cough trolls) on SL forums who act like kindergartner's and who seriously need a time out with a grounding and need to be grounded for a week or two with no internet, is nauseating for the adults who act like adults on this forum.  It's sickening.

Vacuum cleaner.

Only time I've heard someone use Hoover as a verb - well I overheard some guys saying some not so nice things about a girl in the dorms.

This ^^ could be considered trolling.  Just saying.....

Take care of that cough.

Over here in the UK it's quite common to use 'hoover', which often causes people on the (non-commercial) BBC to break out in a sweat when someone refers to their vaccum cleaner as a hoover. A desperate attempt to point out that other vaccum cleaner brands are also available usually follows! :D

I think it is the other way around.  In NY it's "gimme a ***bleeping*** coke, and hurry!"  In the south its "may I have a cokeacola please?"

i never been to NY..but any place i have been to up north it is ..what kind of pop would you like..

south is what kinda cokes can i get for ya'll today..

I come to the forum in the morning light

My friend Keli says when you gonna live your life right
Oh Keli dear we're not the fortunate ones
And trolls they want to have fun
Oh trolls just want to have fun

The PM's fill in the middle of the night
My friend Venus yells what you gonna do with your life
Oh Venus dear you know you're still number one
But trolls they want to have fun
Oh trolls just want to have

That's all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Trolls - they want to have fun
Oh trolls just want to have fun

Some posters create a beautiful sentence
And hide it away from the rest of the world
I want to be the one to walk in the sun
Oh trolls they want to have fun
Oh trolls just want to have

That's all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Trolls - they want to have fun
Oh trolls just want to have fun,
They want to have fun,

They want to have fun.

Yikes!!  That's another discusstion....
:)

It some parts of northern England (where I'm originally from) lunch is also called dinner and dinner is called tea. It hurt my poor wee brain when I moved south and had to get used to calling them 'lunch' and 'dinner'!
