Relly, 

I have had the same problem. It seems as though it may be your settings. I suggest you restart your computer, Check your Router/Connection for any flaw's and try again. It also could be your graphics, I haven't seen problem with downloading new update without a good graphics card. It may be that also, if the following above doesn't work please go to the link below and create a support ticket.

That actually sounds like the media you are trying to install SL on is write protected.  Are you trying to install SL somewhere other than your hard drive?  If you are installing on your hard drive then something is screwed up with your system settings..........or maybe you don't have permissions with your computer account to install a program.  Is this your computer?  If so you need to install as an administrator.  If not you need to get whoever owns your computer to give you the rights or install the program for you.
