I have been trying for hours to log in but I get a "Second Life not Responding" 1/2 way through

At the phase of log in that says "Loading World" I get the Second life (not responding) message in the upper left corner of my screen. I can log in with an alt OK so it is not my computer nor is it the region. My account staus says active and that it is OK. What gives?
ps - I have even tried reloading the viewer and restarting my computer without luck. the same thing occurs.
