is it possible to use second life in China?

I will move to china soon and probably live there for a whole year. Like everyone else iI am aware of sl blocking particular sites such as facebook or google.

 

I checked this on greatfirewall.biz (http://www.greatfirewall.biz/www.secondlife.com) and it says you can access secondlife.com in china...but i am not sure if that enables me to use the viewer too.

 

can you help me and if necessary provide solutions.

Whether or not SL is blocked in China depends entirely on the Chinese government.  Unlike most countries China is a Communist government (as is North Korea and Cuba).  The people in Communist governments have little or no control over what is allowed or disallowed.  Linden Lab won't block access from China but the question is, "will China block access to SL". 

 

I think it's not blocked at the moment (I could be wrong) but, even then, by the time you get settled in your new location that could be a different story.  You'll just have to wait til you get there.

Hi! I have been wondering the same thing too. Can you tell me how it worked out? I am planning to go there this Sept. '12. I see that you wrote this post in 2011. I need to use SL for my job.

I am currently living in China and use Second Life; however, I cannot access it without using a Virttual Private Network (VPN).  Also, the internet is slower and more clunky than you are probably used to in the states, so sometimes it is very hard to get on sl and crashes are frequent.
