Maryanne Solo
Hi music lovers! We've had funny tunes and screaming tunes, what about favourite pop/rock tunes of the past? Absolute worldwide smash hits would be great but you can sneak some regional or lesser known ones in your list too.Try and name 5 :)Video links not required as anyone can search for them but it doesnt matter if you do include them. Some mightn't even have youtube links. They could even be instrumentals too. What I am after are the tunes that really knocked your socks off the first time you heard them.Adds: OK I GIVE IN! Here's the links too! After many years of music consumption and a few youtube browsing, I would have to say:Metal Guru by T.Rex. I think that Marc Bolan set the scene for many english rock gods. His voice and style was so unique. Was it actually his guitar playing? If I Could Fly by Joe Satriani. (The instrumental that Cold Play so blatantly ripped off). The mix of acoustic rythms and beserk soloing is just outrageous. The Wanton Song by Led Zeppelin. Raw, thumping, nasty hard rock. Watermelon by Leo Kottke. I have met Leo, his fingers almost reached my elbow when he shook my hand ^^ A beautiful 12 string instrumental masterpiece which he doesn't play live anymore/then :( I yelled out for it, as u do.Lost Control by Grinspoon. Australian thrash/hard rock gurus. Typically simple Grinspoon tune but utterly devastating. Especially live. Moshmania :) Vid by JellyBean Madison :P If you guys still SL wow so cool \o/I'll pass the microphone onto....
Tristizia Demonista
In a Gadda-da-vida by Iron Butterfly. Still one of the best songs EVER! The Man with the Golden Arm by Sweet. Showed me and many others, that they actually are good musicians too Berlin by Fisher-Z. Best Song, from one of the best Albums of all time for me. Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin. Yes, they could play short songs too Evil by Mercyful Fate. Showed me there was a world beyond pop!! ETA: "of the past" might be drastically different for each of us, depending on age, just saying

Venus Petrov
Wow, I cannot come up with five absolute favorites because there are soooo many. Here are five randoms without repeating what has already been listed: Shivers - Armin van Buuren (I always end my sets with this track. While not pop or rock, it speaks to me) Bring Me to Life - Evanescence (This has been a favorite since release date. I have had a lyric line in my profile since rezzing) Cult of Personality - Living Colour (particularly relevant during this political season in the States) How Soon is Now - The Smiths Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol (both the original and good remixes)
Maryanne Solo
Oh wow! I hoped this would turn out some wild variation in musical tastes in each post! Fantastic! \o/ Yes I know Tris "of the past" specifically to show each persons wide ranging tastes no matter what the era I had hoped I might discover lots of music unfamiliar to me and others perhaps. Marigold Devin
Tons of faves come to mind, but the ones remotely SL-related that top my list at this moment are: "Love Bites" - Def Leppard "If I Was Your Mother" - great hard rocking guitars, fabulous lyrics (esp. for those with a tendency to want to stalk or possess someone) "Jeannie" - Falco - just a brilliant video, incredible vocals "Broken Strings" - James Morrison - quite a recent song, still makes me blub involuntarily if I hear it while I'm out, and brings me back to a particularly long, drawn-out break up in SL. "I Bet You Look Good On the Dance Floor" - Arctic Monkeys (2005) keeps with the SL theme, so much within the lyrics applies (not least because we all do look good on the dance floor!) Stop making the eyes at me, I'll stop making the eyes at you And what it is that surprises me is that I don't really want you to And your shoulders are frozen (cold as the night) Oh, but you're an explosion (you're dynamite) Your name isn't Rio, but I don't care for sand And lighting the fuse might result in a bang, b-b-bang, go! I bet that you look good on the dancefloor I don't know if you're looking for romance or I don't know what you're looking for I said*, I bet that you look good on the dancefloor Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984 From 1984! I wish you'd stop ignoring me, because it's sending me to despair Without a sound, yeah, you're calling me, and I don't think it's very fair That your shoulders are frozen (cold as the night) Oh, but you're an explosion (you're dynamite) Your name isn't Rio, but I don't care for sand Lighting the fuse might result in a bang, b-b-bang, go! I bet that you look good on the dancefloor I don't know if you're looking for romance or I don't know what you're looking for I said*, I bet that you look good on the dancefloor Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984 From 1984! Oh, there ain't no love, no Montagues or Capulets Are just banging tunes and DJ sets and... Dirty dancefloors, and dreams of naughtiness! Well, I bet that you look good on the dancefloor I don't know if you're looking for romance or I don't know what you're looking for I said, I bet that you look good on the dancefloor Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984 From 1984! Pussycat Catnap
I know it says pop/rock but after looking at the lists and realizing I've never heard 90% of the items, and don't even know who maybe 70% of the artists are - there's just no pop or rock in my list unless you count Michael Jackson. So here are 5 of my favorites: But the larger list is here: CatnapKitty's Favorites - Youtube

Eloise Baily
Ooo I like this thread! I struggled with this, but basing it on what, at the moment, I would save from a burning building... Don't Fear The Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult. It has been on every mix tape/CD I have ever made. Life Is Beautiful - Sixx AM. Makes me cry joyously...every time. Amoureuse - Kiki Dee. As beautiful today as it was back in the 70s. World In My Eyes - Depeche Mode, just because I love them. Experiment IV - Kate Bush. Great song and even better video. Driver's Seat - Sniff and the Tears. Best singalong backing vocal EVER! I could go on for miles, but right now, these rule.

Mayalily
I think I'd have to do my top 5 favorite artists because I like most all their songs it's hard to pick a favorite of their's. There might be only one or two of theirs I don't care for that much. 1) Jackson Browne (just about all) 2) Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (just about all; most incredible live band I've ever heard!) 3) Fleetwood Mac (just about all) 4) Steely Dan (plus solo recordings) 5) Emerson, Lake, and Palmer (amazing musicians, probably some of the best ever; front row seat with Keith Emerson twirling his organ around, oh wait, that sounds weird. lol ELP, incredible live even if they were 60; talk about rock! They rock! Woots).
