newer accounts have only one user name and if using a viewer with first name/last name login field you need to put "Resident" as your last name.

When Linden Labs broached the subject of making registration simpler for new folks, they planned to have them choose a last name "later", after they were accustomed to the world. That, apparently, is not happening -- at least it hasn't so far. In the beginning having Resident as your last name immediately pointed out your NEW status *wink*, but now? Not so much. You have plenty of company in your Resident family.

Many things in SL work just fine with one name but sometimes (like logging in) you will need to use the generic RESIDENT in that last name field. Good luck!

All new avatars have the last name "Resident".  So your full user name is ribeirodora36.resident.

Use the "resident" last name for anything that requires you to enter a last name.

Once you are in world, you can choose a "Display Name" in addition to your user name.  This can be anything you want, and you can change it as often as once per week.

Just to clarify,  new accounts need to use Resident in contexts where a last name is required (e.g. logging in with an older viewer).  It's also used by older LSL functions that expect to return a first name and a last name,  if they can't find an actual last name.

It isn't, though, part of anyone's username.   You can easily verify this by dropping

default{	touch_start(integer n){		key av = llDetectedKey(0);//get the uuid of the avatar who touched me		llRegionSayTo(av,0, "Your user name is "+llGetUsername(av));		llRegionSayTo(av,0, "Your display name is "+llGetDisplayName(av));		llRegionSayTo(av,0, "Your legacy name is "+llDetectedName(0));	}}

 into a prim and touching it, or asking others to touch it and tell you what it says to them.
