HELP! Can't get starter hair from Unicorn avatar off!

Hi,

I just started playing sl and am having a problem that I just can't figure out. I started with the unicorn avatar. I bought a shape and skin..I was able to detach all parts of the unicorn but the hair which is called "Blank Hair" in my inventory.  Usually when you right click on an item you are wearing, you get the option to detach or remove. I don't get any option for removing this hair. I bought a new hair and thought perhaps when I "wore" that, the other would be replaced. But it's still there. I have like the bottom part of my new hair but have this ugly box head patch of stupid noob hair still on my head!

Anyone know a work around for this? Or what I'm doing wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated!

There are two kinds of hair in SL, the 'prim' kind which are attached, and the 'non-prim' kind which are worn like clothing. The non-prim kind changes the avatar mesh, these days usually just to provide a nice blank head to put a prim hairstyle on top of, and to change your eyebrow shape.

You can't remove that kind of hair (the non-prim kind), only replace it. You need to find another hairstyle in your inventory and wear it instead.

The same goes for skin, shape and non-prim eyes - you always have to be wearing one of each.

It won't replace though when I add new hair. Could it be because it is so big?  Do I have to get like the biggest hair on the planet to cover it??? I don't get it..Should go away with new hair and it doesn't..Stays. Ridiculous. It's gross.

Thats because you cant replace it with an attached item, its actually part of you.

I had this the other day when i accidentally clicked some newbie eyes in my inventory, trying to clear them out of an old folder. Caused me a lot of hassle trying to remove them. Many newbie items are not really items at all.

You basically need to go into the edit appearance section and make a new, blank look for yourself, from what i remember. Eventually it will let you remove the hair somehow.

Try to right-click and detach your hair. If that is not possible, it's not a prim attachment but "Linden hair" (system hair). In that case, search your inventory for "bald" and replace your current hair with a bald hair base.

I've been in world and looked at the Unicorn avatar. The 'blank hair' you are talking about is, as I said, non-prim hair, what some people call 'system hair'. You have to replace it with another system hair in a different style. Adding prim hair will not replace it.

As others have said, you need to find a 'bald hair' or similar in your inventory and put that on. If you don't find one, look in Library > Clothing > Gamer Female for 'Gamer Female Bald' and put that on. That should leave you with a bald head ready for you to put on any prim style you choose.

OMG how I love these forums.  Thanks for you tip.  Not a noob on here but wound up with noob hair this morning and couldn't figure out how to get it off.  Maybe I need more coffee.  Just wanted to say thank you for responding about the Unicorn avi issue.   Without your response I would have driven myself nuts today.
