Shiva Meiler Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Is there a way (a HUD for example) to search an object (for example an outfit I wanna buy) inside a shop, by entering its name?
valerie Inshan Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I don't think so but it would certainly be convenient especially when the store is huge. You can do this kind of search on the marketplace when you visit a merchant's store.
Marianne Little Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I have the treasure hunt radar. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Treasure-Hunt-Radar/791206 I see there is a HUD from the same seller, and several freebies/dollarbies from others. Like this. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/FreebieFinder-36-Object-FinderTreasure-Hunt-Aid/920596 I haven't tried the free ones.
valerie Inshan Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Wow! Nice tip Marianne! I would give you kudos for this if I could here! :smileyhappy:
Anita61 Anatine Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Phoenix and Firestorm both have aerea search, if you know the name of the item you can type it in the search field and you'll get a beacon to guide you there. I'm not familiar with V2 or other tpv's but maybe they have that funtion as well.
Marianne Little Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 That's true, I keep forgetting that! But the HUD i was linking to has a great adventage - you can type in partial name and you don't need the start either. You can type in a part in the middle. It can be useful, I was in a store where all objects were named almost the same as the hunt objects. It takes some time in sims with lots and lots of rezzed objects, so I only use this in "impossible" hunts. If it has hints and clues, I hunt the old fashioned way.
Qie Niangao Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Easier than a HUD is getting the "world" page from web search and using text search in the browser. If it's on the parcel and set List in Search, it will be on that page, with a handy "Go" button to TP directly to it (or, at least put up a beacon, if the store breaks teleports with a forced landing point). Here's an example of how that page works. (Note: I know nothing at all about this particular store; I just picked it at random from a search for "outfit".) Supposedly we'll eventually get this ability back into the viewer's Search function, for which it was originally developed. It's a real shame that we don't have it now, given that the whole grid gets crawled constantly, populating those pages as a side-effect of getting relevant search results. [ETA: Obviously, however, this won't help cheat at hunts because the hunt token is never set to show in search. I have much more efficient ways to cheat anyway--but "that would be wrong." :matte-motes-whistle:]
Peewee Musytari Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Objects set for sale and to "show in search" can be found in search with their coords. Personally I think the best object search is the Area Search on Phoenix & Firestorm, which can search a whole sim for an object by name, description, owner name etc.
Ishtara Rothschild Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 As others have said, use the area search in Phoenix or Firestorm. Way easier than HUDs or LL's broken search.
Venus Petrov Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I love the search feature in Phoenix/Firestorm. Anything that helps people inworld to shop is wonderful.
