Why is it that Second Life only allows you to change your display name once a week?

As the question above states, why do Linden Labs only allow you to change your display name once a week in Second Life? I mean, it seems like this feature would be a godsend to the roleplay community allow, particularly those who play multiple characters. But the restriction kind of keeps that from happening. Does anybody have any insight on this?
