Question

I have been trying to get my daughter into Teen Second Life. How do I get her into it? I'm reading stuff about sponsors and groups and such but not too sure how it all works. Also, once I get her into SL, am I able to communicate with her in game and send her Ls and clothes and such?

If your daughter is over 13, you may create an alt for her from your main account. Assuming you will be using different computers, you will be able to communicate inworld and yes, you'll be able to send her Lindens. Clothes, shapes, and skins being for the most non transferable, you can buy her anything as a gift via the market place.

Teen Second Life has closed.

Second Life is generally for adults 18 years and older; however, if you are 13 years of age or older you can use Second Life with some restrictions.  If you're:

  • 16-17 years old you can access regions and search results that have a General maturity rating.
  • 13-15 years old, you can access Second Life through an affiliated organization and will be restricted to the private estate of that organization.  Only avatars approved by that organization will be able to enter these estates. You can't use Second Life search or purchase items from the Marketplace.

Teen Second Life no longer exists.  We are all on the main grid, where teens are restricted to regions with a General rating. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Maturity-ratings/ta-p/700119 for information about the rating system. Teens under the age of 16 may only enter SL if they are sponsored by an organization like a school or youth program that owns their own estate in SL, keeps that estate private (that is, inaccessible to outsiders), and limits the teens to that estate.  These restrictions are meant to protect teens from potential predators as well as from influences that many would consider harmful to their emotional growth.   See >> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Teens_in_Second_Life.

Sorry, valerie, but I disagree. The TOS is pretty clear that 13-15 year-olds are only allowed in SL if they are sponsored by an organization, and are limited to that organization's estate. This is just bad advice to someone who may find their own account in jeopardy if they follow it.
