Grizzy Griswold Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I am having an issue in which my avatar is displaying the correct textures for me personally, but everyone else sees the textures for the clothing I had on yesterday. I have had this issue many times in the past and was always able to fix it by doing one or more of the following:rebaking my texturesediting appearancechanging my shapeDoing a "Character Test" to revert back to the default female avatar.Loading a newbie starter avatar called "Katie" that I had in my inventory.Clearing my cache and relogging. Nothing is helping. I tried this last night before I went to bed and then again this morning when I got up. I tried rebooting my computer and restarting my modem. I'm also getting quite a bit of packet loss. 1-3%. Can anyone give me some tips? I'm usually able to clear this right up immediately by doing any of the things above. My avatar looks kind of ridiculous to everyone else, because it's textures that were meant to go with the prims for a ball gown. None of my usual fixes are helping. I've even tried a couple of different viewers. I have been using may alt to check on the textures to see if they are loaded, because no matter what, I look normal to myself.
Grizzy Griswold Posted August 3, 2011 Author Posted August 3, 2011 Also *** I do not have a router. I am using a wireless modem, but the computer which I use to access SL directly connected and wired in. I have contacted my ISP and they can find no issues with my line. It also appears that I have my bandwidth set way too high. I will fix that when I get home, but I changed that last night when I was initially trying to fix the problem because I was listening to a friend who apparently had no clue what she was talking about. **Only uploaded images may be used in postings**://secondlife.i.lithium.com/html/assets/emoticons/mattemotes/silly.png" border="0" alt=":matte-motes-silly:" title="" />
Nalates Urriah Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Knowing your operating system (Windows or Mac) and which viewer you are using helps us get you good answers. For any tech question open Help -> About and copy/paste the info in your post. The packet loss is the likely problem. Visit SpeedTest.net and test your connection. Use that info to complain to your ISP. Understanding what is happening may help you understand how to solve the problem. When you change skin, clothes, tats, and Alpha Layers the viewer composites all those images and creates (bakes) a new image. The image uploaded is all those layers baked into a single texture. That composite texture is then uploaded to SL. Every one that sees your avatar downloads the composite image from SL rather than all your clothes, skin, tats, and Alpha layer textures. If something goes wrong with your upload, then you see something different than everyone else. You'll see your avatar become clear and crisp then go blurry and easy back to clear and sharp. That second blurry is your viewer downloading the composite image form SL... or may be decoding the image in your cache. I'm not sure. Fixing the problem is a matter of being sure you have a good connection and that the region you are in is not lagging. You can try finding a deserted region and rebake your avatar there. Ctrl-Alt-R. Wait 5 minutes and rebake again. You may need to do this 3 times. A friend helps as they can tell you if the change has taken affect.
