Hunter Haddrath Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Wasn't sure where to post this, but I need to know this. I've been on SL for over a year now and I have built and help built my share of items, but recently I started getting into Garry's Mod. I have several builds that I'd like to port from SL to Garry's Mod (and Vice Versa), and I want to know if it's possible to do this.
wiked Anton Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 never heard of garrys mod ?!@#? but i would be interested to know too,
amarock Amat Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 http://www.garrysmod.com/ Its a free sandbox like physics eng. Google is your friend.
Ishtara Rothschild Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I had a quick look at the Garry's Mod website, and I don't think you'll have much luck. From what I read, this software extracts and imports the 3D models from Valve games or other 3D games that use Valve's Source engine (I can't imagine that's legal btw. There is a probably a good reason that the documentation only uses cryptic initalisms like HL2 or CS:S). SL uses an entirely different engine that is Linden Lab's own development. You can import your own textures into GM, but that's about it.
Imnotgoing Sideways Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Creating content for SL and GM are fundamentally different practices. While you can definitely replicate what's been done in SL, you can't simply port prims-to-mesh. You can definitely use something like Blender to make faux prims and port them over to GM... But, the problem is messy enough that by the time you've worked it out... You'd be good enough at Blender to make stuff look better than what it is in SL. ()y
