I try to run Viewer 2.8 on Win 7 and crashes

The viewer gets to "Initializing VFS" and then the window that tells me that SL Viewer has appeared to have crashed -- send crash report appears... I cannot log into SL.... Any Help appreciated

Browse to the path below that corresponds to your operating system:

Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\

Windows Vista - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\

Windows Vista Home Premium - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\

Windows 7 - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\ 

Inside the AppData folder:

1) Open the Local folder and delete the entire Second Life folder.

2) Go back one level to the AppData folder.

3) Open the Roaming folder and delete the entire Second Life folder.

4) Restart your computer. This is important. Do not try starting Second Life again until you have rebooted.

Once you have rebooted, Second Life should run properly.

I have the same problem. SL viewer worked fine on my new HP laptop, then I downloaded the new 2.8 viewer. When the install program asked if I would like to launch the viewer, it worked just fine. But I get the same messages you do when I try to start it now. I downloaded the beta viewer and the same thing happened. It will run from the installer, but not after that.

I've downloaded firefox and I use that temporarily.

 

All the fixes I find seem to be about graphics drivers, but that doens't fix my laptop and it's Intel driver.

I have not tried the LL Viewer but the Firestorm version of it is works fine on my machine which also runs Windows 7.  Does not solve your problem : ( but is an alternative
