Why would you want a modifiable skin?

Is there an obvious reason why you'd want a modifiable skin?

I can think of lots of reasons why I'd want a shape that was modifiable, but I can't really think of anything obvious for a skin.

I have a set of skins where the textures are translucent, so the overall tone of the skin can be a adjusted somewhat using the basic skin colour sliders. For most skins, where the detail is fully opaque, the skin being mod isn't very useful.

There is at least one Skin Creator i know of, where you can modify your make-up on the Skin.

For costumes and stuff. Fortunately for me, I can make due with modding Eloh templates though (love those).

 

(Of course, you don't really get far with a skin that has modify permissions inworld anywhoo...)

Some skins have translucent eyebrows and lips, which allows you to change your body hair and lipstick color. I've always sold my skins that way. I hate it when my eyebrow color doesn't match my hair.

In addition to all the other reasons given, sometimes it's as simple as wantin to rename the skin to add some keywords that make it easier to find when searching your inventory.

 

A better question is what reason is there to set a skin no-mod?

When I first came to SL most skin were modify.  You could use the sliders to change the tone of skin and make up. Like making your self tanner for the summer or darkening your lipstick and eye makeup for evening.  You could even pump up the blush a bit.  The changes you could effect were subtle but I miss that ability

It would be helpful if you wanted to change your lip color or nail color, but the way it is, it doesn't make too much of a difference.
