Shadows & DOF?

I recently bought a new laptop the HP Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition series  for my laptop I changed a few specs about the computer but not much. When I first got my laptop I had a problem logging onto secondlife. It said something like driver outdated or installed wrong but the HP people fixed it. Now I notice when I turn my graphics up to Ultra I do not have shadows I've taken every piece advice I've been given including the switchable graphics that are on my computer. I'm not sure if it is my computer or if someone had this same problem and resolved it?

Also my depth of field doesn't work correctly which also makes me believe it is just my computer. Could lag cause it to not work correctly? When I turn on depth of field and focus on an object or avatar it does not focus everything still blurs maybe I'm not using this tool correctly but I'm in need of answers :/?

Try turning anti-aliasing off. I can't get both shadows and AA to work in Kirsten's viewer, it's either or. It sucks, but I guess it can't be helped

I did I even tried other viewers such as kirsten & the pheonix firestorm beta but still nothing works.

I am still having problems once again I have called HP for the 5th or 6th time. They say I should get in contact with secondlife because maybe the game itself needs to be configured? They also say that everything on my computer is compatiable with secondlife. So is there settings that I need to mess with within secondife? Because once again when I turn my settings to ultra all I get is a hazy blackness around my avatar. Help?
