Is the official viewer for Windows a stable and performant product ?

Yes, the current version of LL's V2 viewer has many serious bugs.  You are far from the first person to notice.  You may

(1) Uninstall that viewer and then download and install a previous one (available at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Category:Release_Notes ). Be sure to go to Preferences and disable automatic downloads of new versions.

(2)  Uninstall that viewer and install a third party viewer like Firestorm (http://www.phoenixviewer.com/ )

(3) Try LL's beta 2.8 viewer, which is reputed to have fewer bugs (down the page at https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/?lang=en-US)

(4) Suffer and wait for the full release of V2.8
