I am having a problem building a devils tail and I could use some advice.

I am trying to build a flexible devils tail with a tip on it. The problem I keep running into is when I make the tail part of it flexible, the pointy tip of it stays in place and doesn't move with the tail. I tried to make a 1 piece sculpted tail, but it wont even let me make it flexible.... Any tips on how to do this?

That's the pitfall with flexible objects, they must be the last in the link chain with no other objects on the other end. You may have seen wagging tails with a tip on the end and this is accomplished by building 2 or 3 tails and then scripting them to turn on/off visibility in sequence, but the objects themselves aren't flexi.

another trick is to make the "tip" have the same connection point as the main tail and use the same flexi settings... it limits your design options, but it's the exact method used by most tipped tails/objects in SL (notable example furry tails)
