Do think you  need to be crystal clear on what it is your "looking" for, Moni. Men are, contrary to our  hopes, not mind readers. Its even  worse in virtual realities.

And you mention "lady killers"? Just be carefull what you wish for, risk is that youll get just that.

I dont belive SL or any virtual reality can be used as a dating service. The oppotunity is there, sure, but  thats the nature of the world ... any kind of world.

Having four relationships in SL behind me. Two I still talk to on occassion and  they are  very good friend, one  I lost contact with and one that  transcented  fully into  the Physical wolrd and sadly ended very very  badly. So bad I had to take extream steps to  get him off my back

xxx

Lots of luck to you in the virtual world(s) and/or physical realms if you so choose.

Moni, this is simple and it's not because of you.

There are three main categories of men in SL.

The first are those who stand by your side and without preamble asks if you want to **bleep**. They are a real pest and can be found on lands dedicated to the sex or nude beaches but sometimes tend to be everywhere.

The latter, some of whom I have met are sensitive, gallant and intelligent, but rarely make proposals for sexual or sentimental type. They prefer to engage in construction or other creative or commercial activity.

Regard to women who makes openly sexual proposals, they are usually men with female avatar. It is possible that in real life they have problems performing sexually with a woman.

I, personally, if I will have some kind of relationship in SL look for a man or woman who does not need to hide their true gender.

In Second Life there are wonderful men and women, is only a matter of finding them but of course, the ideal is to have it in RL.

Some women like the beast. Actually, most do. It's basic evolutionary biology. What attracts women more powerfully than anything is high social status, politicians, athletes, movie stars, and rock stars. Women line up to to do them.

There is only one type of woman, the lady.

You're talking about the rest.

Mind you, a sophisticated man can be both and more.

Many of the men you mention can be a gentleman and a "beast".

That too is evolution, you want a man who is more then just a hunter, you'd like him to be able to make fire as well, be artistic when he makes cave paintings and show that he is sensetive by lighting a candle and leaving rose pettals when he hits you over the head with a club.

If by "do" you mean seduce them out of their high social status without breaking a sweat, I agree!

Rawrr!

Although it's always a bit annoying when a man explains to women what they like, I'll grant you that some of us do like an animal "edge" to them, though I'd challenge you to name one single politician from any country in the world whom you believe to possess that animal thang. Whoever you name, you'll be wrong. None of them have it. Rock stars? Nah. Eddie Vedder excepted. Maybe Mick J. back in the day. Athletes like who? Beckham? jeesh - he fusses more about his appearance than I do. That's soooo not animal. Movie stars no, for the same reason. Vanity is the opposite of animal appeal. Truth is, you'll find "it"  more among "normal" men. I've met at least three this week and it's only Tuesday.

Could be that most men with that "edge" are behind bars and enjoying the company of each other.

If you think that's annoying, think how annoying it is to hear how women just want a nice guy or a gentleman, when personal experience tells me beyond all doubt they most definitely do not. Surveys about what people want are useless because they are liars and/or are not conscious of what they actually want. Steve Jobs remarked upon this in an interview in Business Week.

The most well known politician with the animal thing was John Kennedy. Robert Kennedy ran a close second. Martin Luther King had it too, Barrack Obama has it now, and I suppose Bill Clinton still has it. Saddam Hussein had it. That dude has a ton of illegitimate children.

Rocks stars? What about Elvis, the most famous of all?

Concerning athletes, see this article about the ten athletes with the most illegitimate children. Number one is a professional basketball player with 14 children by nine different women.

Just like everyone else here I can only speak for myself.

I want a gentleman, a civilised man with self control, proper manners and decent behaviour.

My ideas of a 'real man' differ from most described here, I find politicians, rock stars and athletes extremely boring, especially modern ones.

A man behaving in a manner I find morally unacceptable loses my interest in a second.

But of course I also expect a gentleman not to be scared of a fight, to not spend hours caring about his looks, a rough tough man can also be a gentleman.

Then again, I'm old fashioned and don't understand the modern age anyway.

I believe that the "you" that posted that believes that. However, which "you" is it? The you that posted that is your rational self, that one that controls your actions during calm and ordinary states. Moreover, that self believes it is the only "you" in existence and denies the existence of any other selfs.

If I placed you in the presence of a high-status male, you would enter a different state, the state that says "I must have his genetic material for my offspring" and a different you would take over and for that time and would believe it's the only self in existence ever, in that state.

You are familiar with the legend of Odysseus and the island of the Sirens? To get past the island, Odysseus instructed his crew to plug their ears with wax and tie him to the mast. He ordered the crew not to remove the wax from their ears, nor respond to him in any way until the ship had safely passed the island.

When the ship got within hearing distance of the Sirens, Odysseus become mad. He ordered the crew to turn toward the island and threatened execution to all who disobeyed. The crew ignored him. They had planned in advance to to obey the logical Odysseus, not this insane person who had temporarily entered a mad state.

That's what happens to women around politicians and rock stars. They enter a mad state.

I know myself rather well, it is not something I believe, it is something I know from experience.

And I have been in the presence of important politicians, musicians, movie stars, war heroes, criminals, etc.

I do my extreme best to avoid anything or anyone involved with sport as the mention of it alone hurts my braincells.

I've had a job that put me in very close contact with many men that according to you should have made me enter a "mad state".

I never entered "a different state", you may find it hard to believe but I actually care more about the person behind the image, money and power.

Perhaps some people are more in control of their heart and mind then others?

We all want something different, biology, social pressure and mostly acting in a way people expect us to, history, family, culture, upbringing, the career of the woman, background, genetics, it all has a differen effect on different people.

Maybe I'm unusual, maybe most women have that reaction you describe.

Odly enough, most women in my surroundings do not.

Dream on Randall. You should have seen guys fawn over my grad school roommate. They couldn't complete a sentence in her presence. (To be fair, sometimes I couldn't either ;-) I tutored a couple guys on the college basketball team. The tip of my tongue bears the scars from putting up with their outrageous egos while they struggled to understand compound interest, a concept more important to the welfare of any offspring I might want than their six pack, which has since grown into a half barrel.

You are familiar with legends written by guys, it is any surprise they read the way they do?

I agree with you completely, men enter a mad state in the presence of a beautiful women. Millions or perhaps billions of years of evolution cry out to them to pursue her because those that didn't left few or no living descendants. If you can recognize the gravitational affect of an attractive woman on men, why is that you cannot imagine something comparable in women when in the presence of what evolution says is an attractive man?

Humans are weak creatures. A little power corrupts them and absolute power corrects them absolutely. Frodo was strong because he knew he was weak and could not withstand the power of the ring. Gandhi would not have been half the man he was but for his vow of poverty that shielded him from the corrupting influence of power and money.

The urge to dominate is a primeval impulse arising from our tribal ancestry. An alphamale that successfully dominates his tribe or an entire nation can pass his genes onto millions of descendants. And the woman that gave birth to him?

It would be interesting to gather the statistics on family size for rock stars and politicians. US Republican politicians seem to have larger families than Democratic politicians. I've no idea whether rock stars breed more than average, nor whether their offspring fare better than average.

I do know that the use of "alpha-male", as applied to wolves (which are often used as a metaphor for humans) has been rescinded by the creator of the term.

Wolves and humans have different mating habits. Humans exhibit much greater sexual dimorphism due to the tournament nature of their mating habits. One alpha male dominates the tribe and permits no other males to breed. Some of the sneaky ones do anyway, but most of the children in the tribe are those of the alpha male.  Human breeding habits are more like those of a lion pride, a flock of chickens, a herd of cows,  or a tribe of gorillas, and not like wolves.

My dear Storm, that's the second time you've suggested that in this thread.  I'd suggest you were trolling, only I know better.

I wish I could remember the source of the quote. Was from a either a documentary or a book about wolves, I can't remember which. Had to do with a number of aspects of wolf behavior, monogamy being one (I do understand that is subject to debate, but  from what I've read it is still generally accepted). The author or narrator said at some point in the story, "Wolves are better men than we are.".
