Slate Juliesse
Hullo,I was in sl a while ago and left, was ill. I have rejoined with same name. I can log in but have no avatar. It simply does not exist in this virtual world. Linden say everything is OK for them but I can post here as you can see but still have no avatar. Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with sl?
WADE1 Jya
Try changing the skin you are wearing. In the latest version there is an invisible avatar skin, which you might have accidentally changed into. Another option here is if your connection is slow, your avatar may simple have failed to load in reasonable time frame. try turning down your graphics settings. If you wear hair, or shoes,... can you see any of these kind of wearable objects?
Slate Juliesse
Thank you for replying. I have no avatar and therefore no skin or clothes. Linden have abandoned me and I am now thinking of leaving. It really is a pity because I used to enjoy it here, just mooching about but there you go! I am probably doing something simple wrong but there is no way of finding what it is. Thanks anyway.
Griffin Ceawlin
What do you mean you have no avatar? You're not exactly new here, but... Did you download and install a client?
Slate Juliesse
True that I am not new here but what is happening to me or in this case not happening is new t o me. I realise that if you are coming to sl and everything is fine for you then I must be irritating when I say it does not work. I have now gone round the block again, done download etc and I can talk on this forum but that is all. I must be doing something wrong or not doing something right but how to find out what it is. There is no help to be had in my wanderings across all the sl stuff.
Thinkerer Melville
Here are some suggestions I have gathered about peoblems with avatar appearance. What Viewer are you using and what do you see when you log on. The instructions in my web page apply to the current LL viewer, advanced mode. Luc Starsider
I'm guessing you can log in? Do you see anything where your avatar is supposed to be? A cloud? Some attachments hovering in the air? something else? What about the viewer. Do you have a sidebar on the right hand side? Buttons to press? An inventory? If so, what is showing in the outfits->wearing tab? Do you have a system library (with green text)? Can you find one of the default avatars in there and wear? - Luc -
Slate Juliesse
I have two sl icons on the side of the screen along with all the usual stuff that works. One icon is for sl viewer 2 and the other is for second life Beta viewer. Neither of these do anything when clicked or double clicked on. So then I type into search "Second life virtual world" I can then log in. I am presented with a screen full of various sl items but no scenery. I can then click on "community" then "forum" and here we are here again - basically nowhere. sl seem to think I am a time waster. Perhaps I am but it is not done for fun. I used to enjoy coming here but not really now. I know that sl will run on this machine, iMac bought 2007, because it used to run OK.

Ceka Cianci
you did download the mac version i take it? just asking so we can make sure we ask everything to help.. and you also saw the system requirements for the macs ? you can look at those here http://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/ Also if you have one of these video cards..they won't work with second life.. The following cards are NOT compatible with Second Life: NVIDIA cards that report as a RIVA TNT or TNT2 ATI cards that report as RAGE, RAGE PRO, or RADEON 320M, 340M, 345M, or similar model numbers Intel chipsets less than a 945 including Intel Extreme Cards with the following branding: 3DFX, RIVA, TNT, SiS, S3, S3TC, Savage, Twister, Rage, Kyro, MILENNIA, MATROX
Luc Starsider
I think I might be a little confused at this point, so let me see if I can get this straight. Sorry if the questions seems silly or anything - I just want to understand if we are talking about the same things... You are on an iMac? from 2007? What version of the OS do you have on the iMac? (The latest SL viewer might not work with an OS earlier than 10.5.) And on your desktop you have two viewer icons? None of which actually starts when you double click them? Do you get an error message or other message when you double click? Where do you type the search? Do you click the magnifying glass in the right hand corner of the menubar or do you open Safari (or whatever web browser you use)? At no point do you get up a screen with a black background and a picture in the main part, and a username and password field along the bottom of the window? - Luc -
Slate Juliesse
I have downloaded the Mac version andI have all the requirements, anyway sl worked on it previously.
Slate Juliesse
Mac OS X Version 10. 4. 11 Processor 2.16 GHz Intel core 2 Duo Memory 2.5 GB 667 Mhz DDR 2 SDRAM Clicking on either icon does nothing. I open Safari and search for sl like any other search I get a field with the screen for user name and password and that gets me to here but no further. No picture. I do not click the magnifying glass.

Slate Juliesse
Does that mean that every one who has a slightly earlier system was suddenly cut off from sl?

Griffin Ceawlin
10.5 was released in October 2007. Since then two more have been released, the latest being... today. Maybe it's time for that upgrade.
Slate Juliesse
Oh yes! I know that! This mac thing is worse to use than the 8 year old PC we got rid of. But don't start me on that. Thanks for trying to help anyway.
Slate Juliesse
Thank you for trying to help. It should have occurred to me it was the Mac. It has been such a pain in the past. Have just been looking at the Apple site with a view to an upgrade. No human beings to ask of course. Have just had a conversation with a robot. Will leave it now until I go into town and talk to one of those clever sales guys. I still cannot believe that all over the world peoples' sl suddenly stopped working because Apple upgraded their systems.
Marianne Little
You say that your desktop icon does not work? Have you tried other ways to open SL, like from the installed programs? Sorry that I have no idea how a Mac works.
Slate Juliesse
Neither desk top icons work. The only way I can get in as far as this forum is to go into Safari and do a search for sl like you would for any other item. I have no idea how a Mac works either. We got it when our 8 year old PC got a bit creaky. The Mac behaves like a very over priced £200 PC and it cost a lot to pay "experts" to come in and force it to do a few of the things it says on the tin. O god sorry you have set me off. Not done that for several years. Thank you for your interest.
Ceka Cianci
i wonder if the browser version would work? they have a version that i thought we could get to from our browsers..unless i understood it wrong.. i haven't heard much about it lately though.. Griffin Ceawlin
I think that browser version is dead for the moment, unless they're working on it behind the scenes.
