I want to abandon my house, and would like to claim an empty one in a better location, how is that possible?

Select World > Place Profile > About Land > Abandon Land.

Make sure you have taken all your contents back into Inventory before clicking that button. You won't lose them but they'll end up as a coalesced object in Lost and Found so just making it a little more of a nuisance to return them to the right folders.

After abandoning, open your dashboard and select another home. You can do this up to 5 times in a 24-hour period. However, while you can choose theme and type, you cannot select location. This is random according to what is available so if you don't like the one you get, try again.

Right click on land, choose about land, click on abandon land. I'm assuming your in a linden home? Then go buy the land the house is on. Make sure the house goes with the land.

ETA Since you wern't clear on what kind of house you wanted to buy. You will not have to buy a linden home.
