How do I get rid of that annoying group name above my username for good?

I hate this.  You join a group and all of a sudden you have that group name above your username.  How do I set things so that this does not come back?

Go to your group panel in the sidebar and right mouse the first group, called 'none' and choose 'Activate'.

- Do this again everytime you join a group so -OTHERS- don't see anything.

 

Second method:

- To hide them, but still have them up there, meaning -OTHERS- can see your tag if they choose to see it:

Preferences --> General Tab --> Make sure the box next to 'Group Titles' is unchecked.

This just hides it from you, it doesn't turn it off. The first method turns it off.

Go to 'contacts'. At the top of the window, click on the 'group' tag  and check the 'none' box.

I've always found it a little irritating that when you first join a group its "title" is automatically activated above your head.

The simplest way to not have 'that annoying group name above my username' is to not join the group in the first place If that is not an option - do what the other suggest.
