with the latest Viewer 2 download, my shoes are showing black or invisible, how can this be fixed?

Try first seeing whether it helps to disable VBO.  Open Preferences >> Graphics, and click on whatever button opens the Hardware Options screen. (The name on the button varies from one viewer to another, but it's there.)  UNcheck the box that says Enable OpenGL Virtual Buffer Objects (VBO) and see if that makes any difference.  On some computers, it does. 

If it doesn't help for you, it may be best to uninstall the current version of your viewer and re-install a previous one ( available at (http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes ) or try another V2 viewer like Firestorm >>>> http://www.phoenixviewer.com .  The automatic download and update feature is enabled by default, but if you would prefer to download and install new versions manually, so that you don't get "forced" updates, you may do so by un-checking the 'Automatically download and install Second Life updates' box on the Setup tab in Me > Preferences.

I don't know if this will help, but Marine Kelley suggests, in her notes to her latest version of RLV, "If invisiprims render black on your screen (no matter whether you have Lighting and Shadows on or off), simply turn the "OctreeAttachmentSizeFactor" down to 1 (it is 4 by default). You can do this in the Advanced > Debug Settings menu."
