Windows 7 64 bit & Nvidia GeForce GT 555M will only run in low graphics mode. Why?

Have you updated to the latest Nvidia drivers for your card?  If not, I would recommend you start there.  Second, take a look at your Statistics (Ctrl-Shift 1) and see what that tells you.  Choppy is kinda hard to define but the stats will help.  Low FPS is choppy and that's usually a graphics card issue.  High packet loss will cause choppy and thats usually network related (i.e. are you running wireless?)  And long ping time (over 200ms) to the sim server is choppy.  Wireless can also cause that as well as a bad ISP.

Your Dell XPS is presumably running on onboard graphics instead of the discrete Nvidia 555M. Look at your manual, it should tell you what keys to press to activate the discrete card.

However, I seem to recall there is a problem with SL recognising the switch to the discrete card but I can't find the thread at the moment. I need to go back on my posts to find it.

As of yesterday all structures are black, my home is black, and now I have no right hand panel to select my stuff or

anything else. Help!

@Taverly. That is a different issue. Viewer 2.7.4 is badly bugged. Unisntall it and go back to the previous version 2.7.2, the beta viewer 2.7.8. or a TPV.

Can't find that thread I mentioned before but I think it had to do with an AMD setup not Nvidia. I do recall reading that people with HP laptops incorporating switchable Intel/AMD graphics were having issues getting applications that did not support Direct 3D to switch to the discrete card and SL is Open GL.

Anyway, see how you get on after setting up an application profile for SL.

I had the same problem. This worked for me. I researched the Nvidia site and this was the answer. Download this driver from the Nvidia site:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-275.50-beta-driver.html

Then go into your Control panel.. display settings... nvidia icon... and set your global settings to the 555m that will make it default.

To be extra sure you start with the 555m, when you start your viewr.. right click and choose the 555m.
